Comcept has announced that Mighty No. 9’s demo has been delayed.
While the playable demo was supposed to launch yesterday, the new release window is currently unconfirmed.
The news for the delay comes after the entire game was delayed into sometime in Q1 of 2016.
We’ll keep you guys posted.

September 16, 2015 at 2:54 pmLet’s add some clarification to this – they’re trying to get nearly 70,000 demos out to people all at once. If you’ve been a part of big Steam sales, you know that things can get tied up.
They were actually sending out the codes early to some people, as some people got the demo as early as four days ago:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wy4NbaSYnDs
From what it looks like. it’s not so much that the demo has been delayed as it is that there’s an issue getting it out to people due to the sheer volume of people they’re trying to get it to all at once.
OverlordZetta
September 16, 2015 at 2:56 pmIf we’re being honest, it will be remembered as a look into how most games are made and how people just don’t get to look at it from the inside.
If we’re being REALLY honest, it might be remembered as a look at how the internet is full of hypocrites, seeing as Shantae: Half-Genie-Hero will have been delayed for a whole year in October, most of Shovel Knight’s stretch goal content (the majority of the game when you think about it) still isn’t released AND the game was delayed, and in general, most Kickstarters face delays simply due to the Kickstarter system, but for whatever reason, Mighty No. 9 was chosen to the grand scapegoat for the internet’s foaming at the mouth rage over things multiple developers do.
OverlordZetta
September 16, 2015 at 2:57 pmWe have footage of the demo that’s coming out. People have gotten it early, they’re just having issues getting it to people more than likely. Here:

OverlordZetta
September 16, 2015 at 2:58 pmThe demo’s been released to some people. They haven’t said this outright, but my guess is that because they’re trying to push 70K of them out all at once (in addition to 70K codes for Mighty Gunvolt on PC), they’re probably having problems getting the codes.
Here’s footage of the demo that supposedly isn’t coming out in the hands of someone who got it early:

OverlordZetta
September 16, 2015 at 2:59 pmThere’s literally no reason not to have it right now. In 90% of other cases, delays are usually welcomed, and when developers are being as open about the reasons as Comcept is, they’re usually widely praised for it.
It blows my mind that people have been spinning this the way they have when, if you take out the Kickstarter element, everything Comcept has done so far would be considered exemplary when you line them up with other developers right now.
Mr0303
September 16, 2015 at 3:00 pmSome people. I’m a high tier backer. Shouldn’t I get it with a priority? Actually no. Everyone should get the demo on the same date.
OverlordZetta
September 16, 2015 at 3:01 pmEveryone is supposed to be getting the demo. I doubt they’re picking and choosing who gets it – it’s more than likely just an issue of having to produce 150K Steam codes being more of an issue than they anticipated. Steam can’t be happy with them about that.
Mr0303
September 16, 2015 at 3:03 pmI can see that you are in full damage control mode, but the fans were more than generous and patient with Comcept, who launched another Kickstarter before they fulfilled their promises to backers. They delayed the release even after they got a publisher and they can’t even release a demo of a “nearly complete” game? Come on. The backlash is justified.

OverlordZetta
September 16, 2015 at 3:06 pmIt’s hardly “damage control” when it’s as though the entire community’s turned on them. Seriously, dude. Games get delayed all the time, and when Kickstarter isn’t involved, most people are glad for the chance for the game to have improved quality.
The second Kickstarter had mistakes, I’m not arguing that, not even a little, but it also was comprised of an almost completely different development team – meanwhile, Mighty No. 9’s actual development team, Inti-Creates, is doing like five different games, and no one seems to care about that.
It would be one thing if people were saying the same things about all of these other Kickstarters that have done the same or worse, but they aren’t. When I see that, that will be something else entirely.
OverlordZetta
September 16, 2015 at 3:08 pmBecause they planned to release it? Amazon did something similar with amiibo earlier this year – this is just something that happens.

September 16, 2015 at 3:10 pmNo, we don’t. People have convinced themselves of that, largely because of the kind of problematic journalism this site and its community normally takes issue with ironically enough, but the fact is they’ve hardly done so wrong.
What’s more, just scroll down – we’ve got footage of the game right here that proves it absolutely was not. Or do you think a game can create itself for nearly 10 consoles out of thin air?
Antoinant
September 16, 2015 at 3:11 pmThe difference with Shantae & Shovel Knight is that we know they were quality games at the first place.
Mighty n*9 is the overpriced pile of shit that you have to be a goddamn shill to defend it. Inafune has also the reputation of being completely insane (calling the japanese vidya market “dead” while having delusions of grandeur) and destroyed several IPs when he worked at Capcom.
Mr0303
September 16, 2015 at 3:12 pmIt happens way too often with this project.
How am I unreasonable? I expected a demo compensating for the lack of the full game and Comcept aren’t even competent enough to deliver on that. Had they released the demo it would’ve been one less fuck up in their list, so it is not “a damned if they do, damned if they don’t situation”.
Antoinant

September 16, 2015 at 3:17 pmSurely you see how wasting time on promoting the anime, merchandise and the other Kickstarter can diminish the trust of the consumer when the core product – what they promised in the Kickstarter campaign is not on time.

September 16, 2015 at 3:28 pmIt’s true, game development can be quite tumultuous, which a lot of people are now seeing.
There have been quite a number of setbacks, which I believe a good part of the reason is them biting off way more than they can chew, and really jumping the gun in trying to make MN9 a big thing.
Just look at how many different platforms they have to juggle. Porting a game to one different system can be hard enough. And then of course you have them starting ANOTHER kickstarter before this one is out yet.
Surely, you can see how this is quite a different case from Shovel Knight and Shantae.
I do think people are quite a bit harsh towards Inafune though. Personally, I’m reserving judgement until I actually get my hands on the game.

September 16, 2015 at 4:02 pmThe internet didn’t scapegoat it for no reason, the internet did it because:
– They asked for money two more times.
– They’ve delayed the game twice.
– They got a publisher and still had to delay the game.
– Many people felt tricked by the concept shots of the Kickstarter.
– The gameplay looks lackluster.
– Inafune is trying to make this into a franchise without first releasing the game.
– The bad community manager dispute.
There could also be a factor that people backed the game to spite Capcom, and since this looks underwhelming and Capcom is on an upswing, they feel like complete idiots.
It’s the worst example of the worst aspects Kickstarter alongside Broken Age. Shovel Knight is actually getting its DLC this week and Shantae hasn’t done any of the other stuff I mentioned.
Plus Comcept has a bad reputation over all compared to Wayforward and Yacht Club.

September 16, 2015 at 4:12 pmYeah Red Ash just ended up being a black eye for Might No 9, especially since they’re tied so closely together.

September 16, 2015 at 4:25 pmI personally despise Inafune because he talks shit about Japanese games yet most of his titles have Capcom analogues or are very Japanese games like otome games. Plus he was the one that really pushed Capcom towards their terrible era of western developed games for profit. While I don’t know the man personally, he does strike me as a suit pretending to be an artist.
I do think backers have learned to outright hate him because he’s not that different from the Capcom executives Inafune talked shit about. It’s like going from an abusive relationship into another.
Also I do think the delay was caused by the ports not being ready or done yet, because the 3DS can’t handle unreal 3.

September 16, 2015 at 8:45 pmIt hasn’t been delayed for everyone, it seems. Comcept is just every bit as incompetent at sending out Steam codes as they are at managing game development and maintaining trust with gamers the world over. My point is, I have the demo and I’ve played it through thoroughly. No aspect of gameplay or level design has improved. Every complaint is still valid.
– It’s still uninspired.
– It’s still poorly designed.
– It’s still ugly.
– It’s still lifeless.
– It’s still presented badly.
– It’s still running terribly on a more than decent rig. I strongly recommend backers to seek an alternative to playing on PC when, if, the final game ever releases.
Now “someone” *ahem* may call this a “demo” or a “beta”. Before that happens: Mighty No. 9 is “completed” according to Inafune himself while trying to justify launching Red Ash before Mighty No. 9 is out. This trial version is described as “four levels from full game”, describing the content as “in their complete states”. This is it, everyone. There are no excuses anymore, not even the flimsy ones that were thrown around to defend the beta.
New elements to the trial version include –
– Voice acting.
Let me be perfectly clear: I have no problem with English voices in games. I’m not that guy who imports Fire Emblem games in Japanese, pretends Full Metal Alchemist is horrible in English and boycotts any game without dual audio tracks. With that out of the way, the voice acting sucks. The hideous writing doesn’t help, but even setting that aside the acting is just awful. Maverick Hunter X, X8 and Mega Man Powered Up, much like they did gameplay, visuals, presentation and music, do voice acting so much better than Mighty No. 9.
– “An extra layer of polish has been added to the graphics”
Yeah, no. This is invisible polish, if it exists at all. Unless the polish is whatever’s making the game run worse than the beta from, like, a year ago. The game still looks worse than GameCube and PlayStation 2 games that ran on nearly 20 year old hardware. All that talk of “placeholder” models/textures/shaders can all be treated as exactly what it is: nonsense.
In the end, Mighty No. 9 will be remembered as the quintessential example of broken promises and misplaced trust in former gaming figureheads without the backing of a large company. All is not lost, however, some good has certainly come of this ordeal: Capcom now knows that we want a Mega Man game and exactly how many gamers are willing to pay handsomely for it, and it will *not* take them 4 million dollars to make a much better game Mighty No. f***ing 9.
I’m currently working on a video that goes over my history with Inafune’s work and the immense influence he has had over my life and my own work. I’ve met the man in person. I have his autograph. I’ve personally thanked him for the joy he’s brought to me over my entire life. It brings me no pleasure to say these things and feel these ways about his current endeavors but he has thoroughly and completely let me down since Mighty No. 9 was announced.

September 17, 2015 at 12:31 pmIf we’re being REALLY honest here, there wasn’t that much information about how the game was made within their updates. You could probably find as much information from any other Kickstarter project if you really wanted to snoop around. The vast majority of the development process was still kept under wraps (still don’t know why they couldn’t provide a very basic budget plan for the game), so they haven’t exactly been any more transparent than any other dev team.
And if we’re being REALLY 100% honest here, you’re overgeneralizing the situation here. Yes, things don’t always go according to plan during a games development. And yes, games do get delayed because of this. Most of us also understand that stretch goals and promises in the campaign don’t always go as planned. But you’ve taken out the context and all other trivial details that help explain why people are more upset with this game over other ones. So sure, if you do that of course this project sounds like any other one.

I find it in very bad taste to pull this, regardless of whatever the devs say. It’s something to delay a game because of the lack of funding or time, and it’s another thing to delay the game AFTER cutting parts of the game and with the titanic funding they were given.
How people can still defend Comcept and Inafune after so many incompetent decisions is beyond me.

September 17, 2015 at 9:49 pmI don’t know how people forgot that Inafune is, at least in part, responsible for the terrible shit Capcom has done during his last few years there. His insistence that Capcom pander to the West was what caused a good number of the games released during that time to be utter garbage and gave birth such mockeries as “Fuck You” Donte.
Kamiya of Platinum Games called Inafune a businessman rather than a developer, and while personality-wise that may be the case, Inafune is clearly fucking terrible at the whole business thing. In the span of one Kickstarter, all he managed to do was tarnish his good name to a point where even “I made Megaman” is not convincing anyone to support him anymore.
