The launch of Keiji InaFune’s Mighty No. 9 is marred with controversy and criticism, much like its development.
Users are reporting several issues related to the game. Owners of the Humble Bundle version are getting duplicate codes for the Retro Hero skin instead of the Ray DLC.
The Steam version is getting reports of graphical issues and disappearing saves. Wii U owners are facing slow loading times and graphic lag spikes. There’s even users on Twitter warning how the Wii U version is bricking their consoles.
The game’s development woes have even caused three versions of the game: Xbox 360, Mac, and Linux, to miss the global launch date, which is today.
Our review for Mighty No. 9 is currently in progress – stay tuned!
Editor’s Note: The article originally stated that Keiji Inafune said the current state of Mighty No. 9 is “better than nothing,” this is false as it was wholly the opinion of his translator.

June 21, 2016 at 1:21 pmIt’s gonna be pretty damn hard for anyone to have faith in Comcept after this. $4 million for an extremely mediocre game, and a whole bunch of technical issues on top of it even after multiple delays.
It’s pretty clear that Inafune was straight up lying all those times he said the game was finished. I’d really like to hear some behind the scenes stuff, because this goes way beyond a game just being lackluster. Some kinda shit had to be going on at Comcept to have a failure of this magnitude.
Really, this kinda trumps the Ouya for biggest kickstarter flop. As far as I recall, the Ouya was everything they said it was gonna be, and didn’t have crippling issues.

June 21, 2016 at 2:01 pmFor context, this is what Inafune said recently in a livestream in response to the criticism.
“The reality is they put everything into making this game. They didn’t try to microtransaction it out, they didn’t try to DLC it
out for extra money. They put it all in. So, for now, this is what you
see and what you get, for the Mighty No. 9 world. But, again, we can
hope that if things go well, there’ll be sequels. Because I’ll tell you
what, I’m not getting my 2D side-scrolling fill. And at the end of the
day, even if it’s not perfect, it’s better than nothing. At least,
that’s my opinion.”

TheManWithPants
June 21, 2016 at 2:10 pmIf by ‘epic’, you mean tedious, frustrating, and all around dull, then yes, I agree. The bosses even regenerate health if you take too long to dash into them, making the fights drag on for a long time.
deadeye
June 21, 2016 at 2:11 pmBeing really mediocre is one thing. You can’t just make a game better by throwing money at it, after all. A game can hit all of its kickstarter goals and still not be great.
But all of the technical issues is just unacceptable, especially after so many delays. There’s also the behind the scenes documentary which is still supposed to happen, and handheld ports, which I’ll be surprised if they happen.
TheManWithPants
June 21, 2016 at 2:13 pmYup, I can confirm all of this is true. Also the lag is so bad sometimes that it causes frame skipping, so you can randomly end up ahead of what you were doing and it really throws you off, especially when the game relies heavily on precision to not die. It’s really disorienting.

Didney Worl
June 21, 2016 at 11:20 pmComcept asked for $900,000 and they got $3,845,170. When they were given that much extra money, we were expecting something amazing. With all of that extra money, we expected that every concept they had would be brought to life. With all of the delays, we expected something polished and completely free of bugs, especially bugs that can brick your console.
At the end of the day, everybody who donated to that Kickstarter was expecting a Mega Man successor that would surpass any recent efforts in the series and serve as proof to Capcom that there is an audience for games like this. Instead, what we got was a game that was mediocre at best, and a buggy piece of shit at worst
And lastly, Yooka-Laylee made less money than Mighty No. 9 and it looks way better. That’s the difference between someone who knows how to budget and someone who doesn’t.

June 21, 2016 at 11:53 pmIt’s one thing to have a game breaking bug, but it takes a special kind of incompetence to make a console breaking bug.

June 22, 2016 at 12:13 amThe original guy on twitter might have actually gotten brick mixed up with freeze. Some guy with the twitter handle SeanHicksART said the game bricked his Wii U but was able to fix it with a hard reset which would mean it was a freeze instead.

June 22, 2016 at 12:16 amEditor’s Note: The article originally stated that Keiji Inafune said
the current state of Mighty No. 9 is “better than nothing,” this is
false as it was wholly the opinion of his translator.
That would be Ben Judd.
If we’re going to pass on the blame, then you could also say:
The MN9 forums are dead because of Dina
Inti Creates is ultimately responsible for the mediocre game
The recent PR disaster is Deep Silvers doing
Looking at that list you can somewhat sympathize with Keiji Inafune, but personally I find that it’s still his fault for surrounding himself with these people.and letting them run amok. He had every opportunity to manage the project better (or find someone to do so). So perhaps he’s not directly involved with all things wrong with the project, but ultimately he shares the blame.
TT
June 22, 2016 at 12:40 amHe absolutely does share the blame, the boss should keep his employees in check. I want to see the full video to make sense of the context here. It’s pretty retarded to give your “personal opinion” in the middle of translating someone else, don’t you think?
Mighty No. 56008
June 22, 2016 at 12:47 amOh most definitely! I actually watched the thing live and my jaw dropped when Ben said that line. Like, are you serious?! The game is just about to get released and you’re trying to hype it up, and you say THAT?

June 22, 2016 at 1:00 am250 backer here, which was actually 280 because Canada, and this is without a doubt the worst thing I could have ever put money towards. I have no problem saying what a massive waste it was, and they somehow manage to outdo themselves every step, pissing off fans, backers, potential consumers and finding new ways of making it even more lackluster.
Like, they have no awareness or tact whatsoever, which is a mix of being really funny and really sad.

June 22, 2016 at 7:50 amPerfectly valid to feel sorry for the backers who genuinely wanted a great game out of it.
But never feel sorry for the backers who retaliated with blind faith, insults and aggression towards the people that tried to warn them of Dina Karam.

Sure but that is not really the case now is it? If you’ve been walking in the Saudi desert for a week you’ll drink your own piss in the absence of a bottle of Evian from the fridge.
But there are literally thousands of games out there that you could play instead RIGHT NOW.
Hell some of them are even good!

June 22, 2016 at 12:54 pmPretty small Budget?
WTF? Splatoon is 4 Mio dollras buddy! SPLATOON! The 4 Mio SOLD game! And that`s just one platform, which only has 13 Mio users!
4 Mio dollars for a fucking 2D-sidescroller is TOO MUCH in 2016!
See Discovery on WiiU Eshop? Its said to only have costed ~500k dollras! 500.000 dollars!
So thats 0.5 MIO dollars! That`s nothing! And that is an unfinished, yet perfectly working 3D-Openworld-game.
And you say 4 Mio dollras is a low budget? LOL.
Bayonetta 2 was about 20 mio dollars. Just 5x more than 4 Mio dollras and is a 93% rating!
It`s one of the BEST games this gen!
TheChosen
June 22, 2016 at 12:55 pmThe game most likely costed him 500k dollars…
but the whores and the other stuff (Drugs like cocaine etc) must have cost at least 3 Mio dollars xD
And the adverts, don`T forget another 500k wasted on adverts!

June 22, 2016 at 12:59 pmI reeeally hate the spline animation look when it’s not 100% polished, such as this one.
Which is sad, because gameplay-wise, this looks pretty sweet.

June 22, 2016 at 5:41 pmKickstarter lessons to be learned for future hopefuls, don’t over promise on the number of platforms, not even via stretch goals. Launching a game on so many platforms will seriously cripple any project, let alone one with a paltry dev budget of a few mill.

Valentin Vasile
June 23, 2016 at 12:56 amit doesn’t cause bricking,it causes hardlocking which can be solved by unplugging and plugging the wii u again, and they’re not the same thing, bricking is when it makes the device not functional under any circumstance.

June 28, 2016 at 4:28 pmHumble Store, not Humble Bundle. Also it doesn’t “brick” consoles, it just crashes them so that they need to be rebooted. So many inaccuracies in such a small article.
