Kyle Carrozza, creator of the Cartoon Network series Mighty Magiswords, was arrested and is currently in jail for charges of possessing child pornography.
According to Burbank Police Department records, Carrozza was arrested back on June 20th for two counts of possessing child pornography. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office had already filed one count of possession against Carrozza for owning over 600 images of CP.
If found guilty, California law normally recommends a five-year prison sentence and mandatory registration as a sex offender. The crimes he is accused of do not apply to drawings, figurines, statues, or films rated by the Motion Picture Association (MPA).
Following the public knowledge of the charges, multiple people who previously worked with Carrozza have already denounced him and cut ties with the animator.
There are claims on the internet that Carrozza also allegedly groomed and sexually harassed minors alongside the confirmed charges, but no substantial evidence could be independently verified.
Carrozza, who was 45, was an animation artist and storywriter, and is credited as staff in Adventure Time, Fish Hooks, the 2020 Animaniacs remake, and Teen Titans Go!. Carrozza also worked for Nickelodeon on the movie The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.
Mighty Magiswords was Carrozza’s first personal work for Cartoon Network, premiering back in 2016, and lasted for two seasons. He was also in the cast himself as minor character voices.
