Microsoft wants “Genshin Impact-like” for Xbox

The success of Genshin Impact has certainly caught a lot of attention – it has finally been noticed by Microsoft, who are reportedly searching for Chinese gaming content to help compete against Sony.

For context: Genshin Impact is available on PC, mobile devices, and only PlayStation 4/5 when it comes to consoles, though there are promises for a Nintendo Switch port, which has yet to arrive.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Microsoft “regrets” missing out on Genshin Impact and its subsequent popularity. This makes sense considering the game on its own has managed to amass over 3 billion in revenue since its launch back in 2020.

As such, the gaming giant has been reported to be searching for promising Chinese developers and offering them contracts and deals to bring their games to Xbox, mainly in the hopes of emulating the success found with Genshin Impact.

These goals have yet to be publicly announced, as Microsoft did not comment on the matter. It does share a lot in common with known plans for the Xbox division to build upon their Japanese portfolio, where the company has reportedly been in talks to acquire major Japanese publisher(s).

If these reports are truly correct, then it appears Microsoft is greatly attempting to take their gaming portfolio truly worldwide, or at least primarily with the Asian market.
