Microsoft kills off movies and TV store on Xbox and Windows

Microsoft

Microsoft has abruptly and immediately shut down their movies and television stores on both the Xbox and Windows platforms.

If users attempt to browse to the movies and TV sections of the Microsoft Store now on either Xbox consoles or Windows, they’re greeted with this new message:

“Microsoft no longer offers new entertainment content for purchase, including movies and TV shows, on Microsoft.com, Microsoft Store on Windows, and the Microsoft Store on Xbox,” the message reads.

The Xbox maker immediately notes that any prior purchased movies or TV series on their platform will remain available for you to watch.

Microsoft also now suggests users simply use competitor streaming platforms like Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and others for your film and TV consumption.

The official Microsoft Store Q&A section was also updated to reflect the new changes, though Xbox maniacs are likely disappointed to not have had prior warning to the platform shutting down movies and TV content entirely.

It’s worth noting any Xbox console that reads physical discs can naturally still play and DVD’s or Blu-ray’s that you own – as they are the superior way to enjoy film or classic TV series.

The abrupt shut down of Xbox’s entire movie and TV services comes not long after parent company Microsoft axed at least 9,000 workers globally, while seeking thousands of immigrant replacements. It’s possible these services being shut down were part of their cuts.
