Microsoft is Bringing Xbox Live to Switch, Smartphones

Microsoft is ready to introduce modern online features to the Nintendo Switch before Nintendo themselves, as the company is bringing their Xbox Live platform to Switch and other new platforms.

The company said they’re looking to introduce key Xbox Live features on Nintendo Switch and smartphone devices (iOS and Android) in their 2019 Game Developers Conference schedule. The new features will include Xbox Live achievements, clubs and game history, friends, and more.

“Xbox Live is about to get MUCH bigger,” the company’s description reads. “Xbox Live is expanding from 400m gaming devices and a reach to over 68m active players to over 2bn devices with the release of our new cross-platform XDK.

“Get a first look at the SDK to enable game developers to connect players between iOS, Android, and Switch in addition to Xbox and any game in the Microsoft Store on Windows PCs.”

Certain Microsoft and third-party released games will even let you sign into your Xbox Live profile on Nintendo Switch right now. The new features would mean you could earn Xbox Live achievements while playing a game on Switch.

This year’s Game Developers Conference runs from March 18th to the 22nd – we’ll learn more about this during that time.
