Microsoft has Filed a Trademark for Platinum Games’ Scalebound

Microsoft and Platinum Games revealed their brand new action game, Scalebound, a while back during this year’s E3 expo.

Nothing has really surfaced for the dragon- and rock-filled game since then, but now we’ve caught word of a trademark for the Xbox One game. The mark was filed in North America yesterday, and this led sleuths to also discover that a trademark was filed in South Africa, back in May of this year.

It’s worth noting that Scalebound’s trademark features not only class 3 (games) but class 41 (online games), meaning the game could very well have an online component of some kind. What’s interesting is that Microsoft filing the trademark leads me to believe they own the IP, which also means it will never see a release outside the Xbox One.

This could mean that both Platinum Games’ boss Hideki Kamiya and creative producer JP Kellams will have their equal share of fans revolting at the game not being multiplatform, later down the road.

Despite the new trademark, we’re not expecting anything for the game until next year. Who knows? Perhaps we’ll get a surprise for the holidays?
