Microids State The Adventures of Tintin Video Game in Development

The Adventures of Tintin

Microids have announced that in partnership with Moulinsart, that a The Adventures of Tintin video game is in development.

The action-adventure game will be developer for PC and unannounced consoles, including classic characters Tintin, Snowy, Captain Haddock, Professor Calculus, and Thomson & Thompson.

First published in 1929, the comics grew from newspapers, to its own magazine, to worldwide renown with cartoons and movies. The stories saw Belgium reporter Tintin, in globe-trotting adventures full of mystery, swashbuckling, and excitement. His adventures have taken him across the globe- including several fictitious countries, and even the moon.

In 2006, the Dalai Lama awarded the Light of Truth Award from the International Campaign for Tibet (for promoting human rights and democracy), to the Hergé Foundation (represented by Hergé’s widow). Tintin in Tibet was published in 1959, when the 14th Dalai Lama (the current one) fled India during the Tibetan uprising (1959).

The most recent Tintin video game had been a tie-in with the 2011 movie. The Adventures of Tintin: The Game (or The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn) launched to luke-warm reviews on PC, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, Android, and iOS in 2011.

There had also been a smattering of titles prior, on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Megadrive, PC, Game Boy Color, and PlayStation.

Utilizing some Uncharted-esque shots in the latest film (Steven Spielberg directed, who also directed the Indiana Jones series of films), it is hard not to speculate if similar spectacle will be used in this new game. Though nothing has been confirmed at this stage, and the final product may be something more reserved and thoughtful.

It should be noted that Moulinsart is not the developer, but “the company which has been set up to protect and promote the work of Hergé.” At this time, the developer has not been announced.

In addition, Microids announced that their business was 35 years old today.
