Metro Series Creator Responds to Epic Games Store Controversy for Metro Exodus

Following the news that Deep Silver has dropped the Steam release of Metro Exodus for an Epic Games Store-exclusive release, many fans were understandably frustrated with the decision. Now, the Metro series creator has sounded off on the controversy.

Series creator Dmitry Glukhovsky posted an image of a steam engine found in Metro Exodus to his personal Instagram account, with a clever quip saying “Steam was not enough for our steam train.” A fan then accused him of killing the franchise with the Epic Games Store decision.

Glukhovsky responded (now deleted, but archived over on Reddit) by saying “I am standing by and watching it being killed,” which he’s naturally referring to the game no longer coming to Steam. He also confirmed he has little control over the publishers decisions.

The Metro creator later played the devil’s advocate, noting he “did not have an impression that Steam gives a shit,” and that he thinks “Epic will [do] everything to help.”

Glukhovsky previously pulled the plug on the Metro live-action film from happening, because the production studio was looking to American-ize everything.

“We’ve seen the American version of apocalypse a lot of times and the audience that like the genre are educated and saturated and not really wishing to get anymore of that,” he said at the time.

Metro Exodus is launching on February 22nd for Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
