The invasion of Ukraine by Russia has been a major topic this year. It’s even reached multiple facets of our lives, one of which includes gaming. Multiple companies, such as Nintendo and Sony have halted sales in Russia over it.
A noteworthy individual with a negative view of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is Dmitry Glukhovsky, who would be best known for his Metro 2033 books, which led into the popular game series of the same name.
He shared on Telegram on his new status as a wanted criminal in Russia, due to speaking out against the war:
“My first criminal conviction! I am accused of discrediting the Russian Armed Forces for a post on Insta (http://www.intagram.com/glukhovsky). Article 207.3, part 2. As aggravating circumstances – accusing the President of the Russian Federation of unleashing war with Ukraine. Ready to repeat everything it says: Stop the war! Admit that it is a war against an entire nation and stop it!”
Dmitry Glukhovsky is Russian, but does not live in Russia, leaving him currently safe from being arrested, or potentially worse given attempts on life from those who speak out against Russia or President Vladimir Putin.
Though it appears that this listing will also likely not deter the Metro 2033 author from speaking out his thoughts on the war or Russian leadership for their decisions relating to it.
Other companies voicing opposition against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine include CD Projekt RED cutting off from their Russian team, leading to a delay for the next-gen upgrade for The Witcher 3, and Euro Truck Simulator 2 delaying their “Heart of Russia” DLC to avoid appearing to support the country.
