It’s nothing new to see musicians or bands getting involved with video games after making a fandom solely through music.
The legendary German band Blind Guardian has done full-fledged songs in a couple action RPGs, and even David Bowie was heavily involved with the soundtrack and development of Omikron: The Nomad Soul.
Now, Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth has released their very own video game, for iOS and Android devices.
Titled simply Amon Amarth, the throwback game has you take up control of the legendary Norse god Thor (what kind of game did you expect from this band?) and use his weapon, Mjölnir, to destroy your foes.
Featured above, you can view the announcement trailer for the new game, which Ride & Crash Games developed.
Here’s a rundown on the game:
You are Thor and your mission is simple: cleanse Midgard from all of the vile creatures that are threatening the (*ahem*) peaceful Viking way of life. Grab Mjölnir. Blast Amon Amarth. Save Midgard.
There are three keys to ensure your success: Your hammer, Mjölnir. Your control of the freakin’ thunder and lightning. Your fighting spirit is always high thanks to AMON AMARTH’s epic music in retro style blasting from over the horizons and into your ears.
Key Features:
- Four unique worlds.
- Four unique boss battles.
- 12 unique levels.
- 13 different AMON AMARTH tracks made with retro video game sounds.
You can find Amon Amarth the game here on iOS and here on Android.
