Meiji Tokyo Renka is Getting a Sequel and an Anime Adaptation

Meiji Tokyo Renka is an otome visual novel that started off as a mobile game, was adapted into a drama CD series, then got a PSP port, and eventually had a live-action movie.

The historical reverse harem is now getting an animated movie, which will be an adaptation of the live-action movie. Studio Deen will be responsible for the animation. Hiroshi Watanabe (Hell Girl: Three Vessels, Angel Core) is directing, Yoshiko Nakamura (Junjou Romantica, Sekaiichi HatsukoiMonthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun) wrote the screenplay, and Akio Hirakawa (Hakkenden: Eight Dogs of the East, Sekaiichi Hatsukoi 2) adapted the original character designs for animation. Yukiko Uoizumi, the scenario writer for the game, will be supervising the project.

The movie is scheduled for a July, 2015, opening, according to Famitsu.

In Meiji Tokyo Renka, Ayazuki Mei, the heroine, is transported by a magician to Meiji era Japan, where she meets and falls in love with historical figures from the period.

According to the game’s official website, the sequel to Meiji Tokyo Renka will be out on April 23 in Japan, and will again be on the PSP. You can see the opening movies for the mobile and PSP versions of the original below.
