Most World War II games put you directly behind a weapon and ask you to survive by taking out enemies. The 2021-announced game Medic: Pacific War flips that idea completely.
Instead of chasing kills or storming objectives with a rifle in hand, this upcoming indie project focuses on one of the most overlooked roles on the battlefield: the combat medic trying to keep soldiers alive in the middle of absolute chaos.
Developed by Hypnotic Ants, the game takes place during the Pacific Theater of World War II and puts you in the role of an unarmed American field medic. Your mission is simple in theory but brutal in execution: reach wounded soldiers, stabilize them, and somehow get them to safety while explosions, gunfire, and air strikes tear everything apart around you.
In other words, you will assess injuries, apply bandages and tourniquets, manage pain levels, stop bleeding, and physically drag or carry injured soldiers away from danger. The battlefield itself is constantly active, forcing you to make quick decisions under pressure rather than slowly treating wounds in a safe environment.
The game also takes inspiration from military simulators like Arma 3 and Hell Let Loose, particularly for players who naturally gravitate toward support roles instead of frontline combat.
Historical details appear to play a major role as well, including limited medical resources, difficult moral decisions about who to save first, and the harsh reality that medics themselves were often targeted during Pacific campaigns.
Alongside the story-driven campaign, the game will also feature an Arena Mode focused on replayability, tasking you with handling endless waves of casualties while upgrading abilities and improving efficiency under pressure. Here’s a trailer:
Medic: Pacific War is currently in development for PC via Steam, with a full release planned sometime in 2026.
