It always makes me sad when I realize not everyone loves mecha as much as I do – which is the case in point with the indie game Hawken. The first-person mecha game saw a release on PC and later one on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, only now the PC version is being shut down.
The news comes via the game’s official Facebook, where the team at 505 Games confirmed the PC version is being cut off next January, with its Steam page being delisted entirely.
“After 3 great years, we are shutting down the PC Steam servers to refocus our development efforts. The PC game will officially be removed on January 2, 2018, and all DLC and purchasable content will also be unavailable starting today,” the studio wrote.
It’s worth mentioning the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game appear to be still support – for now at least.
“It’s been an incredibly rewarding experience working alongside such a dedicated PC player base. Your feedback and support has been invaluable to us, and the team looks forward to creating more great games based on what we’ve learned from you,” 505 wrote in another blurb on their update.
The game was essentially scheduled for a full relaunched on PC when its first update in over two years came out last May. Coming from this, development on that new content has probably been nixed – for PC at least.
You can still get your hands on Hawken in its current form here on Steam, free of charge.
