According to actor Mark Ruffalo, he was told directly by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige “we’ll never give you a standalone Hulk”
During an interview at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Ruffalo tells a story where he was allegedly talking to Feige who had asked him what he’d like to do with the character.
Ruffalo’s ideas for Hulk included building him up to become an “integrated character”, to which Feige allegedly said that it’s something they’d do over four movies because they will never give him a standalone Hulk movie.

Marvel is ramping things up with an upcoming list of movies meant to fill out their “Multiverse” saga which they’ve been teasing through TV series like WandaVision and Loki. The upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine film is the latest in that story arc and may bring the X-Men and mutants to the MCU proper in the wake of their acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
