Update: Someone claiming to be the Marketing Manager for Marvel Rivals apologized for the “miscommunication“.
The agreement for users with early access to Marvel Rivals for the purpose of promotion contains a clause stifling them from voicing negative opinions of the game.
For those who don’t know, Marvel Rivals is a new team-based shooter in the vein of Overwatch, Paladins, and Team Fortress 2 where players select a character with their own unique loadout and abilities to compete over objectives.
Pro Overwatch player Seagull is among the many who noticed the clause and pointed it out to their audience.
The clause reads as follows:
2.1 Non-Disparagement: The Content Creator agrees not to make any public statements or engage in discussions that are detrimental to the reputation of the game. This includes, but is not limited to:
a. Making disparaging or satirical comments about any game-related material, such as game features, characters, or music.
b. Engaging in malicious comparisons with competitors or belittling the.[sic] gameplay or differences of “Marvel Rivals” or providing subjective negative reviews of the game.
Some users are claiming that this sort of clause is pretty standard, though given it’s Marvel, it’s possible that these claims are being made by fans running apologetics for the company.
A release date for Marvel Rivals has yet to be announced, the game will be available on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
