Mario sequel movie titled Super Mario World

Super Mario World

The long-awaited Mario sequel movie is officially titled Super Mario World, a nod to the classic 90s game of the same name.

News of the official title – and likely its main plot – were leaked via yet another media blast that accidentally listed the name of the Mario sequel movie.

“An exciting range of films from Universal Pictures, Focus Features, DreamWorks Animation and Illumination were presented, including Megan 2.0, Nobody 2, Bad Guys 2, How to Train Your Dragon, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, Black Phone 2, HIM, The Phoenician Scheme, Super Mario World, Shrek, and Minions,” reads the blurb from the NBC media blast.

Actual details on the Super Mario Movie sequel are scant, though we know it has been in production and is already set for a 2026 premiere.

The teaser after the end-credits of the first film revealed a very obvious nod to Mario and the gang going to none other than Dinosaur Land, the region of the Mario universe where Yoshi made its debut.

In related news, Nintendo has another game-to-film adaptation for their beloved Legend of Zelda franchise – though that has a premiere date set even further in 2027.
