Footage of a Mario Kart prototype meant for the Game Boy Advance has surfaced.
The prototype, Mario Kart XXL, was made back in 2004 by Denaris Entertainment, a company which was founded by Manfred Trenz. Youtube user StevenSeventyeight uploaded 4 minutes of this never before seen prototype, although we’ve never seen anything regarding this game since it appeared on Denaris’ website years ago.
From the YouTube video:
Its the first time that the manage to rotate 2 different mode seven layers. This was never done before on Gameboy Advance system, however Nintendo did only use the engine in later GBA games.
This essentially means that the prototype was developed for the purpose of showcasing the Game Boy Advance’s 3D tech, as the majority of games for the system were 2D. The entire thing is curious, for now we’ll be classifying this as a rumor (the most noticeable thing is the title screen, as it’s a modified version of the Mario Kart: Double Dash box art).
As far as we’re aware, this prototype was never meant to be developed into a game.
