Paradox Interactive has announced a new expansion and a new physical release for Hearts of Iron IV.
The new “Man the Guns” expansion is focused entirely on naval combat, and its set for a release “soon” across Windows PC, Mac, and Linux. Featured above, you can view the announcement trailer for the new expansion.
Fans will be able to design their own warships in greater detail, adding bigger and badder guns, more armor, and more through a modular design. You can also retrofit older ships so they’re more in line with the latest in destructive power.

A large free update for the base game will come alongside the expansion, as with their previous expansions. There will also be “new paths” for democratic nations like the United States to “explore alternate histories or fully mobilize the arsenal of democracy.”
A surprise for the game came via an “Anniversary Edition”, to celebrate the strategy game selling over a million copies.
Setting you back a cool $169.99 and releasing alongside the above expansion (it’s included with this release as well), the physical release comes with a large statue of the Italian Empire toppling Big Ben (in an alternate history type scenario where the Italians won big in WWII). For an extra $10 you can get Anniversary Edition Plus, which includes the base game plus every expansion released till now.
Here’s a rundown on the new content:
From the Battle of the Atlantic and convoy escorts in the west, to the island hopping and carrier battles in the east, the course of World War II was shaped by fighting on the seas. Men and women filled the dockyards of the world, making the mighty warships that would prove decisive in humankind’s greatest crisis.
Man the Guns is a new naval themed expansion for Hearts of Iron IV, the best-selling globe spanning strategy wargame from Paradox Development Studios. Man the Guns brings you closer to the swelling waves as you train and command large battle fleets or smaller flotillas better designed for your coastal shoals.
