The advent and embracing of new modern technology is typically preceded by the pornography industry utilizing it in some shape or form.
Virtual reality is a natural fit with pornography, despite the recent manifestation of the various companies putting out their new HMD systems. The real question is – should virtual reality be here to stay (and be increasingly developed and improved), will humans begin to prefer virtual reality sex over real-life sex?
According to an anonymous Reddit user – yes. The recently divorced, 30-year old man wrote a brief yet interesting post, in which he talked up his newfound addiction: virtual reality porn.
“The quality of Virtual Real Porn has only been getting better with time,” said the user. “For me, the “Squeaky Mattress” video comes incredibly close to simulating real sex. Granted, you cannot feel their bodies, but the visual stimulus is just so good!”
The user remarked on how well his climaxes are with VR porn. “I’m having the best orgasms of my life using VR porn,” said the user. Here’s the kicker, in going only with VR porn to satisfy his carnal needs, this man is relishing his lack of dealing with the emotions of women.
“When I’m done, I don’t have to worry about the emotions of another human being,” said the user. “And I don’t have to put my own emotions on the line. There’s nothing at stake. There’s no possibility of heartache. It’s just sex, there for you whenever you want it, with zero strings attached.”
He also made a point in saying that he’s probably ok with never being in a relationship ever again, while he would just use VR as his “sole sexual outlet.”
“I’m in my 30s, and I’ve been divorced for a little over a year now. When my wife and I separated, I felt like I never wanted to set myself up for that kind of heartache ever again. People would tell me that I might feel different later, and I’m not entirely ruling that out, I just don’t see myself realistically feeling like that ever again.”
Finally, the user compared his use of VR porn to otaku in Japan who marry anime characters and avoid human relationships. “It sounds weird. I realize that. […] There are similarities, sure,” he said. “[…] The part of me that desires physical contact is fully satisfied with VR.”
There are games and VR experiences being made that easily tease the imagination of a more realized, involved virtual reality that involves sex.
Bandai Namco’s Summer Lesson project is basically voyeurism heaven (I loved it), and a prime example of how better production values can really engage the senses.
What are your thoughts? Could you ever see yourself getting off to VR porn – or have you already?
Editor’s Note: It’s worth pointing out this is from an anonymous user, and as such, should be taken with a grain of salt. We felt the discussion coming from his post, however, is hopefully interesting. Also worth mentioning the header image is of a user wearing the Oculus Rift, and not the Gear VR.
