Nintendo has announced (via Games Talk) that the mainline Pokemon games have sold over 200 million units, worldwide.
This new milestone was reached as of February 29th of this year. If you include spinoffs, the number rises to over 279 million units worldwide.
This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon series, which Nintendo launched way back on February 26th, 1996, with both Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue.
The latest pair of games in the series, Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, are set for a release on the Nintendo 3DS.
