Mafia: Definitive Edition Launches August 28, II and III Available Now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One

Mafia III: Definitive Edition

2K Games have announced the release date for Mafia: Definitive Edition, along with the launches of Mafia II: Definitive Edition, and Mafia III: Definitive Edition.

As previously reported, the games were formally announced today, though Mafia: Definitive Edition did leak on the Microsoft Store.

While Mafia: Definitive Edition does not launch until August 28th, both Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition have launched today.

This is most likely due to the original Mafia needing to be remade from the ground up. This is confirmed in the news post on the official Mafia website.

“Rather than a straight port of the original Mafia to modern platforms, Mafia: Definitive Edition is a faithful remake that enhances the 2002 classic in every way, delivering an experience that’s even better than you remember. The beautiful presentation, with stunning visuals that are 4K/HDR-ready and a sweeping soundscape featuring an original score, breathe new life into this vision of organized crime in 1930s America. Lifelike cutscenes present Mafia’s narrative like never before, with Tommy’s gripping story faithfully captured and expanded to give insights into characters we only got to glimpse in the original game. And the immersive gameplay has been updated to entertain newcomers and old-school fans alike, with added features like a larger Lost Heaven to explore, motorcycles introduced as a new vehicle type, collectibles to seek out, and much more.”

Those who pre-order the game can earn the Chicago Outfit pack, including a Smith V12 limousine vehicle, Gold Semi-Automatic Pistol weapon skin, and The Don outfit.

Mafia: Definitive Edition

Mafia: Definitive Edition launches August 28th on Windows PC (via Steam, later on the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, Xbox One.

Alongside graphical improvements (including HDR and 4K support where available), the news post for Mafia II: Definitive Edition states the game “includes all three of the story add-ons as well as four packs of bonus content.”

The later four packs include outfits and cars, along with a fifth pack for those who register the game with their 2K Games account. In addition, there is further bonus content should players purchase other games in Mafia: Trilogy at a later date.

“Pick up a copy of Mafia III: Definitive Edition if you want to wear Lincoln Clay’s military jacket or tear up the streets of Empire Bay in his Samson Drifter muscle car. When Mafia: Definitive Edition is released later this year, adding it to your collection will unlock Tommy Angelo’s suit as well as the Falconer Yellowcar cab that he drives early in the game.”

Mafia II: Definitive Edition is available now on Windows PC (via Steam, later on the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and coming soon to Google Stadia. However, the Steam page for the game is not available as of this time of writing

Finally, the news post for Mafia II: Definitive Edition states it includes (along with the aforementioned 4K and HDR support) “three sizable DLC storylines, tons of added content,” and other bonus items by linking the game to a 2K Games account, and with the ownership of other Mafia: Trilogy games.

“By owning all three Definitive Edition games in Mafia: Trilogy, you’ll get bonus items based on the anti-heroes of Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia II: Definitive Edition for use in Mafia III: Definitive Edition. Expand Lincoln’s wardrobe with Tommy Angelo’s suit and Vito Scaletta’s jacket, then take Tommy’s cab and Vito’s Shubert Frigate sports car for a spin on the streets of New Bordeaux.”
