Lords of Xulima Update Adds Polish Localization, Hints At Console Release

If you’ve played Lords of Xulima, you know how verbose the game’s characters are. With over 70,000 words it has enough dialog to pass for a full-fledged novel. Even so, developer Numantian Games took the extra effort to create a Polish option in the game’s latest patch and included it in the RPG’s most recent update. Translation work isn’t finished either, since a Russian localization is in the works as well.

That’s not all on the Xulima news front though, since a Kickstarter post hints at big plans for Numantian and their title’s future.

Firstly, Numantian mentions the possibility of a console port and adding gamepad support to the PC version as a side benefit:

We are planning to port LoX to consoles, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. One of the first challenges is changing the input system and allow LoX to be fully managed by a gamepad. Some parts are trivial but others will be challenging tasks. How are we going to implement the search for hidden items/buttons? How will the in-game help of the different GUI elements or map elements be displayed? And there are a hundred more problems that may arise that we are considering first. Porting the game to consoles or tablets will take a lot of effort, measured in time and money. Should we dedicate months of work for the ports? Or wouldn’t be a better idea to start the development of a new game?

The word “Sequel” is sometimes thrown around, but it seems like Lords of Xulima fans may not need to wait that long for new content, since the first game might be getting a new batch of content:

We have so many ideas… too many indeed. We have great plans for the sequel but not for the near future. The sequel will require a much bigger budget and important improvements to our engine. We need to think on a smaller project first, that could be a new gameplay mode for Lox (perhaps the Rogue-like Dungeons of Torment we spoke about our Kickstarter campaign) or a different game. So we are starting to prototype both the new gameplay and the new game concept. At the same time, we are improving our engine so that the new technology can be used for the sequel.

Bonus content, especially this long after a game’s release, is disappointingly rare…so kudos to Numantian Games for not packing it in and calling it a day. A console port seems hard to do with such a mouse-driven game, but it should be interesting to see if they can, like inXile will be doing with Wasteland 2, introduce the RPG to couch gamers.
