Publisher CI Games has announced they’ve cut ties with Lords of the Fallen 2’s latest developer, Defiant Studios.
Effective immediately, the publisher has ended the agreement with Defiant Studios for work on the game, citing a low quality of work for the vertical slice they had prepared to present.
CI Games made the following statement in a Polish press release (translated via Eurogamer) regarding the split:
The termination of the agreement was submitted due to inadequate execution by Defiant [of] a key work stage (milestone no. 11), a so-called vertical slice. The quality of the work was lower than expected by the company, as precisely described in the agreement, despite three calls to improve the quality of this stage of work.
The game re-entered development back in June of last year with the New York City-based studio, and has been confirmed since 2015. It remains unclear who will now develop the sequel.
Developer on the original Lords of the Fallen, Deck 13, is currently working on The Surge 2, which is launching sometime this year. CI Games proper is working on Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts.
