Lord of the Rings: Gollum Announced for PC and Consoles

Daedalic Entertainment has announced a new game set in the classic Lord of the Rings universe.

The new game (via THR) is titled Lord of the Rings: Gollum, and as the name suggests – it follows the exploits of former hobbit Gollum, years after he acquires the One Ring and before the events seen in the War of the Ring trilogy. Basically when he was in a dark cave eating fish and orcs, muttering to himself.

While details are scant, the developer notes the game is an action adventure experience, and it’s set for a 2021 on Windows PC and “all relevant console platforms at that time.” The 2021 release window is planned to coincide with Amazon’s upcoming series, which is also based on the Lord of the Rings universe

Daedalic is best known for point-and-click adventures that focus on story. Daedalic CEO Carsten Fichtelmann explains how the studio’s experience will help with a Lord of the Rings game by saying “You already have that big conflict in the character, two voices talking to you continuously, which means there is a good reason there are decisions to make in the game: the Smeagol decisions or the Gollum decisions.”

Gollum is the first title developed in the new partnership between Daedalic and the Tolkien Estate, but there are plans for more games down the road.

We’ll keep you guys posted.
