The live-action Uncharted movie has lost its sixth director since the beginning of its production, as we’ve learned (via Deadline) director Travis Knight has left the project.

The reasoning behind the latest director to leave is reportedly the scheduling of the film, as Sony is pressuring the production staff to move forward with the production – despite co-star Tom Holland’s upcoming schedule for the next Spider-Man film, which is set for summer 2020.

While a new director hasn’t been named, Sony Pictures has pledged the film project is still happening, with co-stars Tom Holland (Spider-Man) and Mark Wahlberg still attached. Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are producing the film for Atlas Entertainment, while Avi Arad and Ari Arad are producing for Arad Productions

While Holland is set to play series protagonist Nathan Drake, Wahlberg is set to play Nate’s mentor, Victor “Sully” Sullivan. It’s worth noting Wahlberg was originally set to play Drake years ago when David O. Russell was the original director. The script was later changed to more of an origin story with a younger Nate, so Wahlberg wanted to return in some form.

This is the first feature film to be produced under the new PlayStation Productions branch of Sony and the long-running Sony Pictures.

The current draft of the screenplay is by Rafe Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway – the latter two of which are known for the Iron Man film series. Sony has reiterated the film project is a priority for the company, despite having several directors give it a try and ultimately leave.
