Limited Run Games have announced they will be producing a physical version of Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash!
A sequel to the 1999 Dreamcast title, players once again must aid reporter and idol Ulala from fending off an alien invasion through the power of dance. Along with VR motion controls (and even a calorie burning counter), the Hatsune Miku DLC is available now.
As with most released by Limited Run Games, the game will be offered only as a pre-order (usually for four weeks). Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash! will be available through Limited Run Games on July 31st at 10 a.m. ET.

Set in the 25th century, Space Channel 5’s top reporter Ulala is hosting a news report on mysterious dancing incident involving the aliens known as “Morolians” that forces people to dance. Fight against the invading aliens by dancing and recieving more views and helping Ulala win the ultimate dance battle.
Your power is dance and the mission is to protect the earth against invading aliens. Alongside our heroine Ulala you will travel through the music filled world of “Space Channel 5”. Master a series of life saving dance poses while dancing to funky beats that made Space Channel 5 one of the most beloved SEGA franchises. More poses you strike, more viewer ratings you get, and the more heads you can turn as you dance til you drop and save the Universe!
- Story Mode: Join Channel 5 as a rookie reporter alongside Ulala
- Arcade: Play an introductory mode recommended for VR beginners
- Trial Dance: Play 100 dances in a row in this exercise and endurance mode
- Viewing: Watch the story again through a third person perspective and multiple camera angles
- Friendopedia: View character biographies
- Dressing Room: Change Ulala’s outfits as you unlock them through the game
- Calories: Track the calories burnt during gameplay
What is Space Channel 5?
“For all the people who love music, dance, and games” is the motto of the original musical action game, Space Channel 5, which was first released in December 16th, 1999. Set in outer space during the 25th century, Space Channel 5 stars top reporter Ulala, who must solve an incident involving the Morolians, a mysterious race of aliens who are forcing people to dance. In the game, you’ll fight against the invaders by dancing, and win dance battles to gain more viewer ratings for Ulala.
Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash! is available on PlayStation VR, and coming soon to Windows PC (via Steam VR, Oculus Rift, and Viveport).
