Life is Strange is the New Episodic Adventure from Square Enix and Remember Me Developer

life is strange 08-11-14-1

Remember the action adventure game Remember Me? No? Well, the French development studio, Dontnod Entertainment, is working on a brand new game in the form of Life is Strange.

The game itself is a digital-only, “episodic narrative experience with a twist”, and it’s being published by Square Enix. The team is promising a “compelling, story-driven experience where choice and consequence play a key role” within the dialogue. However, “there’s a twist.”

Life is Strange kicks off when student Max Caulfield returns home to the fictional Oregon town of Arcadia Bay, after being away for five years. She meets up with her childhood friend, Chloe, and they consequently decide to solve the mysterious disappearance of their classmate, Rachel Amber.

Things take a turn for the interesting when Max discovers that she has the ability to rewind time, which allows the player to manipulate the course of the game, and possibly even change the past, present, and future.

Jean-Max Moris, Creative Director at Dontnod Entertainment had this to say regarding the new series:

“Everybody at Dontnod is excited to be working on such a refreshing title … We’re not only crafting the best game we possibly can, we also feel we’re providing the type of experience that perfectly fits today’s renewed taste for originality and diversity.”

While a release date was not confirmed, the game is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

We’ll keep you guys posted.

Dotnod studio… the one behind Remember Me… game which sold 0.25k copies on PS and 0.12k copies on XBOX

    Let’s add to this
    -digital only
-episodic game (probably cost of all episodes will be like usual more than 1 retail)

Yup… it looks as game of the year *sarcasm*

If Squeenix has too much free time they should start making Vita games or 3DS games… with Dotnod crappy results they should know their place and get experience making handheld games. I mean… come on… some of niche games are getting better results on Vita than Remember me.

Or even better, use them to release Type-0 on Vita….

I would bet good money that this will be critically well received but will flop hard in sales. Being known as “the studio that made Remember Me” doesn’t exactly help sell your new game either. I agree that Squeenix should be investing their time and money better.

I really hope Square Enix have given Remember Me studio enough money and time to create a game episodic game and not a Jurassic Park
