Level-5 is finally bringing their blockbuster ghost-taming RPG, Yokai Watch, to the west. Further details are scant, but the president of Level-5, Akihiro Hino, is already talking up something bigger and better.
Speaking with Japanese site Wedge Infinity, Hino-san let ou a pretty big tease:
“Developing new games within the Yokai Watch series takes some time, but in the next few weeks we’ll be focusing more on our new title. Around this time next year, we’ll be able to reveal something that’s not only entirely different from Yokai Watch, but vastly different from anything we’ve ever done before. 2015 is going to be a year of big changes for us as a company.”
Hino-san described the company’s current Fukuoka location as a future “Hollywood” of games, stating that he wants to move the company towards that goal. Now here comes the big (and final) tease from Hino:
“2015 is going to be the year we reveal a blockbuster even bigger than Yokai Watch.”
To clarify that final statement, Hino did mention that he wants the game to be similar to things he enjoyed in his youth, only more modern. Considering Yokai Watch has become a trans-media phenomenon in Asia, we’re assuming he means the same for this new game.
Finally, Hino-san also confirmed the series’ first anime adaptation, Yokai Watch the Movie: Tanjou no Himitsu da Nyan!, to be coming westward in both the United States and Europe.
Could this be that large-scale, brand new RPG on Playstation 4 that Level-5 is reportedly going to reveal at E3 next year?
