Everybody loves Sim City, and its demographic-spanning success has spawned several imitators over the years. Though sim games aren’t in short supply, it’s rare to see one that forges its own identity and mixes up the formula enough to stand on its own.
One such game could be the recently released Lethis – Path of Progress, a world building simulator that looks one part Sim City, one part Jules Verne’s dream-come-true.
Created by indie French developer Triskell Interactive, the game takes you to the world of Lethis, where steam technology has just been discovered, leading to a massive industrial revolution. Your goal is to manage the development of this new technology while meeting the needs of your people and yet still pleasing the desires of the Emperor as well. This all takes place within the confines of a highly stylized steampunk world where large Zeppelins and massive factories blanket the landscape. Finding a way to balance all of this yet still keep your people happy and multiplying is a big part of the challenge.
The official list of features for Lethis – Path of Progress include:
- A campaign mode containing 26 missions with 3 difficulty levels
- A sandbox mode for unlimited fun
- Over 24 different resources to manage
- More than 40 different buildings and 4 unique Monuments
- Over fifteen different characters that roam the city
- Maps that reach up to 400 per 400 box tiles
- An amazing soundtrack with over 20 different songs
Triskell Interactive seems to be a small but devoted team, their latest update to the game’s fans proclaiming their dedication to the title’s further development:
- Here we go , Lethis – Path of Progess is finally available! After 9 months of hard work, we’re exhausted, yet extremely happy to know that you’ll finally be able to play our game. This game was built by a small team of 6 people and a musician who all wanted to bring back the feeling of old-school games of their youth.
- We’re very proud of all the work we’ve already done, and promise to further establish and improve our game! In the following days and weeks, we’ll do everything to enhance your experience, and implement new features and extras – all free of charge of course!
- We’re assuring you as well that we will fix every bug you may encounter. We hope that you have as much fun as we had developing and programming the game! And now : It’s time to build a city!
Lethis – Path of Progress is available for $19.99 USD on Steam for Windows PCs, and sometime in the future, for Linux and Mac as well. You can follow the game through the aforementioned Steam page or the official site.
