Earlier today we had the chance to sit down with Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment and Traveler’s Tales to get a further demonstration of the upcoming Lego franchise game: Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
During the hands-off preview, we were shown around Tatooine during the events of Episode 6: Return of the Jedi.
Several different characters were shown off, including: C3-PO, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, and Boba Fett.
Some land and space combat was shown off with the Millennium Falcon being attacked by a Star Destroyer above the planet, and the player being attacked by Tusken Raiders on the planet’s surface.
New to this iteration of the franchise, players will be able to not only use force powers during combat, but they will also be able to string together combos into impressive attack sequences.
As this is also a Lego game, combat and combos can be as simple or as complex as the player wishes, allowing for newbie players and young ones to be able to play and beat the game alongside more experienced players.
Also new for the series is the over-the-shoulder third-person perspective for ranged weapons.
In the demo, Chewie pulled out his bowcaster, and took aim against the Tusken Raiders attacking the player.
Using a new graphics engine, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga looked incredibly beautiful.
Every location, item, character, and vehicle was fully recreated using real Lego bricks before being brought in to the game.
The Star Destroyer that attacked our demo player was thus even more impressive knowing that a team of people had to fully create that starship using real Lego bricks, including the interior before being brought in to the game world.
Each of the nine movies is featured in this collection, and while we have seen Lego games based on most of these movies in the past, we were told that every movie in this game was completely redone for The Skywalker Saga.
Sothis means that if you have played and enjoyed the games in the past, this collection is still worthwhile as they are not the same games you once played.
The game also features an exploration mode.
So if you so desire, you can forgo the story mode and explore the various worlds in each of the movies on your own, finding all the secrets and out of the way places at your own pace.
