The team at The Chinese Room has finally given us somewhat of a tease at the true story behind their gritty, realistic post-apocalyptic game, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture.
The game’s story takes place in a remote valley within Yaughton, in June of 1984. The focus of the story is the people within this area, and how they live with one another, but also of the encroaching apocalypse. The entire world itself is described as its own unique character, instead of just a setting:
“Rapture also came from our obsession with post-apocalyptic gaming, and the simple idea that whilst we normally play as the hero, in reality, most of us would be the piles of ash and bone littering the game world,” co-director Jessica Curry said over on the PlayStation Blog. “That’s an interesting place to start telling a story.”
The entire experience within Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is all about discovery, as you can explore anywhere you see fit. You can visit every location in whichever order you like, and the team promises you’ll witness a “strong, dramatic ” story experience.
Lastly, Jessica also promised that music and audio is a fundamental part of the game. You can hear one of the tracks from the game over at the PlayStation Blog as well.
