The Last Of Us Part II is Revealed for PlayStation 4

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced The Last of Us Part II for PlayStation 4 at this year’s PlayStation Experience.

While Ellie and Joel are both in the game, Ellie is the main playable character – and she’s now 19 years old. Coming from this, the game takes place a few years after the original. While Ellie plays differently from Joel, there will be some things included that are described as evolutions, while other are reinventions.

Featured above, you can view the game’s announcement trailer. It’s also worth mentioning that Gustavo Santaolalla has returned to compose the sequel.

Creative director Neil Druckmann shared a message for the upcoming sequel:

I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey.

It’s still early days for the project—the game’s release is a ways off—but we couldn’t wait any longer to give you a glimpse of what’s to come. We’re going to let the trailer (coming soon to this post) speak for itself, but expect more information about The Last of Us Part II in the coming months.

My thoughts exactly. Neil Druckmann – as well as Naughty Dog in general – got under my skin ever since I saw that Grounded Mode documentary on the PS4 remaster. Uncharted 4’s controversy where someone was fired for alleged “racism” didn’t sit well with me at all, either.

I hope it has a plot more interesting than ‘revenge story in zombie apocalypse setting’.

  13. Mr0303
    December 3, 2016 at 3:23 pm

Remind me – what did they say in the Grounded documentary?

They pissed me off with how terribly they handled the Last of Us DLC with the horrible virtue signalling.

Then there was the time Druckmann praised Anita Sarkeesian.

Make revenge stories and then these same sjws whine about violence in video games, the hypocrisy is mindblowing.

  16. 3rdStrike_Ebi
    December 3, 2016 at 3:33 pm

They espoused how great it was to have such a strong, “empowered” woman in video games – at least, that’s what Troy Baker believes we’ve never really seen before (which is false, because he worked on Persona 4 and should therefore know about Naoto). All the actors are virtue-signalling spastics who drone on about “representation” like it’s the oxygen they need to breathe in order to live. And Druckmann is the biggest hypocrite – he repeats the same diversity mantra as his friends, yet still believes in meritocracy when it comes to finding the best voice for the role when he cast Laura Bailey as Ubermensch Empowered South African Lady in Uncharted 4? Cut the bullshit, I would say to him.

  17. Mr0303
    December 3, 2016 at 3:45 pm

Yeah, most voice actors are regressive twats. After all Ashley Johnson was in that one anti-Trump commercial.

Druckmann is a SJW hypocrite. He spouted about diversity, but still hired one of his friends for the roles to play the token character as you said.

Amen. I was a fan until the DLC, which was pure virtue-signaling with its lesbianism. I think NG intended the original game to also be a vehicle for stronk-womyn and non-binaryism with the girl acting tough and cursing all the time, but it was too low-key for a sustained campaign, people expected the conditions of a post-apocalyptic world to force that, whereas the poz disease celebrates nonbinaryism as a choice of the individual, so people didn’t really get the connection as everyone was focused on the apocalypse. NG expected the gaming media to circulate the meme so that it would slowly trickle down to the audience but most of them didn’t even get it, and the stirring origins of Gamergate began stunting their legitimacy, so NG came out with that DLC to force feed the point.

There was but it was very subtle and well hidden, that’s why most people didn’t get it and Naughty Dog came out with the DLC to force home their intentions.

  31. Mr0303
    December 3, 2016 at 4:13 pm

Where did I say that? I said that the main game didn’t include preaching and feminist motives, which is true. The DLC expansion on the other hand was a ham fisted piece of crap like I said below in my response to 3rdStrike_Ebi.

  32. Mr0303
    December 3, 2016 at 4:14 pm

I wouldn’t say it had preaching. The writing was good enough to avoid a typical Mary Sue or focus on people’s sexuality for the sake of it.

  33. the Southerner
    the Southerner
    December 3, 2016 at 4:14 pm

Why do you think they came out with the DLC? Because most people didn’t notice their virtue-signaling. Naughty Dog wanted to go low-key and subtle with their feminism and blacksim to keep sales strong, and then release the DLC to catch those people who didn’t get the memo.

TLOU was a good game. Not an amazing one, but a good one.

It didn’t need a sequel. In fact I’d say having a sequel hurts the original game by proxy regardless of the sequel’s quality.

Because normalfags inexplicably worship TLOU as some pinnacle of storytelling for reasons beyond my comprehension. Maybe it was the cutscene graphics or some maternal attachment to Ellen Page, who knows.

It wasn’t any better written than your average Uncharted or Tomb Raider game, it just had really nice graphics and they gave Ellen big disney eyes.

I already see people on YT saying “no matter what else comes out that year this will be GOTY”, it is seriously disturbing how frothy these TLOU fans are

I’ll never understand why this franchise was considered so great.

When I got my PS3 I made sure I had The Last of Us. Best reviewed game, 5 stars on Amazon….this must be amazing.

Booted up the game, a cinematography of some uncompelling story started, then when you finally got to play, it was some mediocre shooter.

Mind you, I don’t mind stories and cinematography in games, as long as it’s done right like in Beyond 2 Souls, but The Last of Us was just stupid.

As much as I don’t really give a shit about modern Naughty Dog games I think their animation/mocap team do great work. Not much of a cinematic experience to talk off when over half of the actual gameplay game is spent crouching behind cover and the other half is spent mashing the same button to win each damn fight.
