Still going strong and raking in big numbers for Belgian developer Larian Studios, Divinity Original Sin (You can read our review of it here) has become a bit of a rallying cry for those of us who want deep CRPGs on the PC again. Having been such a run-away success with the crowd-funding site Kickstarter, you’d think that Swen Vicke, the man behind Larian, would dip back into the trough again for another go at making gaming history.
Not so, it seems, as a recent interview has revealed.
Though Vicke is appreciative for the support (both monetary and emotionally) the community has given him and his game, he feels it would be unfair to ask people to fund another project due to the run-away success of Divinity:OS. This isn’t to say he would ignore the community though, since he explicitly states that he valued their input in Divinity’s design process and plans to involve the game’s fans in future projects…whatever those might be.
This just goes to show you how sincere Vicke is and how much he cares about the industry. Going back for a handout on Kickstarter *would* seem a bit odd, considering the amount of money Larian made off of Divinity.
Right now, Swen’s job is to work on getting out the new companions and quests for Divinity before their fall 2014 due date.
