YouTuber kson ONAIR has announced they’re joining the VShojo Vtuber group. kson is known for her blending of live-action and Vtubing, with her model being based off of her actual appearance.
Her inclusion in VShojo was announced as a surprise on Saturday morning, suddenly dropping a lore video that explains her inclusion in the “mythos” of VShojo. For those unaware, VTubing is similar to wrestling in that there’s a sort of “Kayfabe” where viewers play along with the character’s background in their interactions with them.
Her also marks the announcement of the “VShojo Next” project, which is kicking off with “VShojo Japan”. Similar to how Hololive began branching out into English, it seems VShojo will be trying their luck in Japan.
The popularity of kson ONAIR exploded shortly after completely unaffiliated VTuber Kiryu Coco graduated from Hololive. At the time it was thought that her graduation had to do with the actions of Chinese “antis” who would harass Coco and her friends out of anger for a long-ago stream where she correctly identified Taiwan as an independent country.
With kson rejoining a VTuber group it begs the question of why not Hololive? Kiryu Coco was one of the biggest Superchat earners across all of YouTube. If you ask me, my guess is that kson’s brand of profanity and intentionally “yabai” humor might not be a good fit for Hololive who’s seemingly trying to market themselves as an idol company.
Maybe we’ll see Mikeneko join VShojo Japan?
