Hot on the heels of our previous report stating Konami has shut down their Los Angeles-based Metal Gear Online studio, the publisher is yet again cited as looking into a new Metal Gear Solid title, and it’s probably going to cost a whole lot more than what Metal Gear Solid V cost to develop.

In today’s Nikkei (from 2ch, via Kotaku), the publisher has officially begun internal talks regarding the next Metal Gear Solid title. The newspaper said that Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima (who Konami still claims is on vacation) has not confirmed if he’s working on the next game.

“When we start development, a large-scale investment will become necessary,” says Konami in a quote via Nikkei. The report also states a release date and further details for the game are not confirmed.

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima is reportedly no longer with Konami while Kojima Productions have been shuttered. Despite this, Konami is still sticking to their comment regarding the entire thing: Kojima and his team are on “vacation.”
