A new rumor is making the rounds that Konami is rebooting Castlevania with their internal Japanese studios, among rumors they’re seeking to reboot their other core franchises.
The new rumor (via VGC) that Konami is rebooting Castlevania notes their sources, speaking under anonymity, describe the new game(s) as a “reimagining” of the series.
Further, the new reboot of sorts is being developed internally at Konami Japan studios, with help from local external developers.
The rumor also notes that the long-rumored Metal Gear Solid reboot is also being worked on by external developer Virtuous.
Instead of remaking or rebooting the series with the first Metal Gear Solid, the rumor notes Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will be the first reboot/remake. Konami is also reportedly working on remasters of the original games for modern consoles.
A previous rumor also noted that Konami is working on multiple Silent Hill games at various external developers, but further details weren’t teased.
Konami was previously rumored to be shutting down their internal game development division, amidst a large restructuring of the company. The company denied this, and the new rumor notes this restructuring was to position the company to focus on bringing their premium game franchises back.
As with any rumor, take this with a grain of salt. We’ll keep you guys posted.
