Konami says fans “always want more Castlevania, and we do too”

Castlevania

Hot on the heels of Dead Cells getting official Castlevania content, IP holder Konami is teasing more stuff from the beloved vampire-slaying franchise.

The new DLC brings fan-favorite protagonists Richter Belmont and Alucard in what Konami producer Tsutomu Taniguchi jokes is basically an isekai for both games.

“Is ‘isekai’ a buzzword? Because this is how I would define this storyline,” Taniguchi said to IGN. “Let’s just say that Dracula’s Castle teleported on the Beheaded’s Island and what happened on the island stays on the island.”

For those who don’t follow manga or anime, “isekai” is a Japanese slang term for a character being abruptly transported to a new world – usually with some kind of fish out of water type scenario or feel.

Dead Cells developer Evil Empire remarked on the new collab by saying they had “respectfully stolen” a number of elements from Castlevania, namely its whip, the key art with a castle, the food hidden in walls, and more. From that they pitched Konami an official collab.

The Konami producer then went on to say that fans always demand more Castlevania content, and they’re looking to supply them – hopefully.

“[…] We know that our fans always want more, and we do too, so this opportunity to have this amazing crossover with Dead Cells was impossible to pass up on,” Taniguchi said.

He added, “We tried to bring back the games that people loved and cherished with the Castlevania Anniversary Collection and the Castlevania Advance Collection, we also brought back Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night for our PlayStation fans and on mobile, and launched Grimoire of Souls on Apple Arcade to celebrate the lore of the franchise.”
