With the release of Death Stranding looming ever closer, game director Hideo Kojima is on a media tour to talk up the game and its development process. A recent interview had Kojima confirm that his studio will eventually make full-blown movies, and not just video games.

“In the future, Kojima Productions will start making films,” Kojima said to BBC Newsbeat. “If you can do one thing well, then you can do everything well.”

It’s been a long-known fact that Kojima wanted to make movies prior to entering game development, and his games have been usually filled with cinema-grade cutscenes. He’s also quite obsessed with movies in general, frequently attending premieres and meeting with film directors.

Kojima added some thoughts regarding the future of gaming, saying “I think within the next few years, gaming will move on to streaming.”

“I’m very interested in the new format of game that will appear on there and that’s what I want to take on,” he said in closing.
