[UPDATE]

I’ve gotten word from a representative at 8-4, a Japanese localization company that worked alongside Mighty No. 9 and their Kickstarter, that they are not officially working on this project. However, the representative did say “we are cheering on from the sidelines.”

I’ve also reached out to Koji Igarashi himself, alongside some other potential leads, to see if I can find some clarification. For now, we’re still classifying this as a rumor.

[ORIGINAL STORY]

As we reported yesterday, the rumors and endless speculation of Koji Igarashi’s Castlevania spiritual successor have gotten a bit more believable, if this new teaser website is anything to go by.

If you visit swordorwhip.com, you’ll be greeted with what appears to be Koji Igarashi himself (featured above), dressed as the dark lord Dracula, sitting on his throne. He proposes that you choose either sword or whip, and upon choosing, you’ll get a special message. I’m currently part of the Iron Flail clan, and Igarashi-san is calling me Valefor the Venomous.

Other users received messages like “What do you do when you find yourself without a castle? You build another” or even more curiously, the ability to tweet out what clan you’re a part of, as well as your most-voted for weapon. This seems to be persistent, although it’s not clear what the voting will be going towards – what kind of protagonist the game will have perhaps?

You can continually vote, and recruit people to your cause, once you get that parchment. This could be a gigantic hoax, and if so, my blackened heart will become that much more dead inside, but if true, we’ll be getting a reveal sometime soon, if rumors are anything to go by.

Finally, the next quarter of the moon is on the 11th of May – perhaps we’ll see yet another reveal then? We’ll keep you guys posted.
