Koei Tecmo’s Ni-Oh Resurfaces as a Playstation 4-Exclusive

Koei Tecmo has re-announced Ni-Oh, a game they first revealed for PlayStation 3 in 2005 and subsequently kept putting off, for PlayStation 4.

The game is now a PlayStation 4-exclusive, and it’s coming sometime next year. Featured above, a new trailer was even shown off for the game, and there’s even gameplay!

The game is a dark action RPG, where you’ll take on challenging missions in a Sengoku-styled world, rife with demons. The protagonist is a blonde, blue-eyed warrior named William.

The protagonist looks like Samurai Geralt.

The gameplay reminds me of Onimusha. Keeping an eye on this.

Looks pretty cool. Most samurai games tend to be over the top and just sandbox battles. I wish there were more games that let you play through a good story and explore the world. My favorite is still Soul of the Samurai.

You guys have any recommendations (aside from the well known ones) for good samurai games that aren’t just sandbox hack and slash fests?

Reminds me of what a modern Onimusha would maybe look like. Now I’m sad.

Is it just me, ore are a lot of Japanese games going PS4 exclusive? I know MS has never done well in Japan, but do Japanese games not sell on MS consoles outside of Japan as well?

No Japanese games never sell on the XBOX. I think that most fans of Japanese games have a playstation. Especially in Europe and Asia.

MS did try to get Japanese games in the last gen but they lost a TON of money doing that. It just isn’t worth it.

True enough. Guess Japanese developers have caught on that it’s just not worth their time to develop for Xbone after consistently poor sales on 360, at least without MS willing to buy the game outright.
