Big publisher Koch Media has rebranded to PLAION

Koch Media

Koch Media, owners of companies like Deep Silver as well as a host of video game developers, (Free Radical Design, Warhorse Studios, Volition, etc) have announced that their company will be rebranding as PLAION.

“Over the last 28 years we have built an incredibly strong business, partnering with many of the best-known names in the industry,” PLAION co-founder and CEO, Klemens Kundratitz said.

He added, “Since joining the Embracer Group in 2018, growth has accelerated and we have become increasingly diversified. To reflect the evolving nature of our business in terms not only of content, but also of geography, as we continue our expansion across the globe, we have chosen our new name to better portray who we are and the journey we are taking.”

With their new brand name replacing Koch Media, PLAION hopes to reflect the global nature of their brand as they have grown to become a global entity rather than a localized media corporation located in Austria.

PLAION also changed their logo to a play button, a symbol that they believe stands for their desire to play first. The play button is made from a ribbon which represents the connectivity and bond that PLAION has with its development studios as well as its fans.

PLAION was founded in 1994 but has come to gaming prominence since 2018 when they announced the establishment of Deep Silver and begun to push hard into video game publishing under Koch Media.

Today, PLAION owns ten game development studios from their Koch Media days: Deep Silver Volition, Deep Silver Dambuster Studios, Fishlabs, Warhorse Studios, Milestone, Voxler, DigixArt, Flying Wild Hog, Free Radical Design, and Vertigo Games. They also have a long history with publishing games from independent studios.

It is exciting to see a company go through such a major rebrand, especially one who holds the reigns to so many different well-known studios. We will have to see what PLAION has in store for us in the near future.
