Behold Studios’ 2013 release, Knights of Pen & Paper, took the idea of retro-RPG’ing and played a clever meta-game twist on it. By requiring you to manage the players at the tabletop (And the table itself) rather than just carve up baddies, it created a unique experience that seemed to resonate with those who know how chaotic such a live RP session can become. Last night, Behold Studios released a new trailer for the first game’s sequel, in all of its 60 frames-per-second glory.
- Prepare to inhabit a world of chivalry, class warfare and off-beat pop references. Knights of Pen & Paper 2 is a turn-based, retro style, pixel-art adventure full of danger, intrigue, death, and saving throws! Players assume the role of a group of teenagers, playing a classic pen & paper RPG to overcome dicey situations. As both party and game master, they get to assemble both their characters, and the challenges they will face. Select among mighty classes like Wizard, Thief or Warrior; proud races like Dwarf or Elf; and snark-slinging players like Goth, Lab Rat or Rocker. Choose quests and combat encounters, delve dungeons, craft powerful items and watch in horror as your muscle-packed barbarian rolls a one on his body check.
You can see the Knights of Pen & Paper 2 Trailer on Behold’s official site, along with plenty of screenshots showing off the title’s gorgeous pixel art. The game is due to launch next month on May 14th on Steam, Google Play, The App Store and Paradox’s own digital storefront as well.
