VTubers Gawr Gura and Mori Calliope of Hololive English have reached over 4 million views on their cover of KING in just six days.
The Vocaloid song was released on August 2nd, 2020, and reached over 40 million views on YouTube. Since then, the song has been subject of many covers, including several VTubers. Gura and Calli stepped up with their duet rendition; and have been setting their fan communities alight and beyond.
While Gura frequently sings on her livestreams, Calli usually specializes in her original rap songs when singing. As such, their special duet version of the song features original rap lyrics by Calli blended into the original song. You can find it below.
The cover is clearly popular, as it has achieved over 4 million views in the six days since it has been uploaded. For comparison Hoshimachi Suisei– also a Hololive vtuber- achieved 4.8 million over three months. Hololive vtuber Ayunda Risu has achieved 4.2 million with her cover. Out of the thirteen Hololove covers of KING– Gura and Calli are second only to Murasaki Shion; 6 million views over nine months.
Other heavy hitting covers include Kazuha of Nijisanji (25 million over nine months), and Kizuna AI (7.4 million over one year).
The popularity of this new cover may not entirely be unexpected; Gawr Gura was the first Hololive vtuber to hit 1 million subscribers (in less than six weeks as well), and is currently sitting at 3.33 million. Calliope Mori has 1.67 million, with two albums in her discography. Both can also be found playing video games, and having fun with other Hololive members.
