Kickstarter has announced a new funding platform called “Drip” aimed to rival Patreon and fill the space for creators looking for continual funding.
They describe the new platform as a “subscriptions tool” to allow creators to “receive recurring financial support” from their audience, as their main Kickstarter funding model would only offer a one-time funding scheme.
The main caveat here is that Drip is tied directly into Kickstarter, meaning the 14 million users who have already pledged towards projects on their main Kickstarter platform can also throw money at content creators on Drip.
Kickstarter noted that every “Drip” will start with a “founding membership” period of between seven and thirty days, where you can offer “founding member” subscription tiers. This is designed to somewhat mimic the “urgency of Kickstarter’s all-or-nothing mechanism” where the project theoretically won’t happen if the funding isn’t met.
