Publisher PROTOTYPE and developer Key have announced Kanon is getting an English patch update for its Nintendo Switch version next month.

The classic visual novel is getting an English and Simplified Chinese language update for its Switch release on December 5th. Kanon was released internationally in English for PC (via Steam) back in June 2024.

The new language update likely means the Switch version will get an international release the same day, as their previous titles got global releases when language updates were released.

First released back in 1999, Kanon is considered a classic of the genre and was the first hit for Key, who went on to produce other hits like Clannad, Air, Little Busters, and more recently Loopers and Stella of the End.

As mentioned in our previous report, Kanon is probably mostly known for being the source of the iconic “uguu~” meme (shown above), which heroine Ayu says in both the game and the 2002 anime series.
