The Japanese prefecture of Kagawa, who made the pokemon Slowpoke their governor, is honoring the pink ‘mon with manhole covers across the entire prefecture.
The new manhole covers have been installed around the region as part of their very-real partnership with The Pokemon Company. While Slowpoke was introduced as an governor to the region as a joke, they are somewhat owning up to the joke and making it real.
You can view the map of Kagawa with the manhole covers here, and here’s a quick look at the various designs:
The reasoning behind making Slowpoke the region’s ambassador was his Japanese name, “Yadon”, which sounds a bit like “Udon”, a popular dish from the region.
Slowpoke is also supposedly able to summon rain, and has a sweet nectar on its tail – Kagawa is known for its lack of rain, and a center that researches a rare type of sugar.
