Kadokawa Corporation has announced that it is wholly acquiring the Dark Souls and Armored Core development studio FROM SOFTWARE.
The now parent company will be acquiring roughly 80% percent of the total number of shares from the previous stakeholder, Transcosmos, and the transfer will finish on May 21st.
Alongside its game subsidiary Kadokawa Games, the Kadokawa Corporation is hoping that From Software will expand its business even further in the games industry. Both development studios can make use of each others’ talent and expertise to mutually grow as they develop new games, as well as their development resources.
A profit of $1.75 billion yen (roughly $17 million USD) is expected for Transcosmos as a result of this transaction.
