Mechanical Butterfly Studios is working on quite a fun looking mecha game dubbed simply Jump Tanks.
Featured above, you can view some pre-alpha gameplay for the already fantastic looking game, although it will probably help if I explain what the hell is going on.
Jump Tanks is essentially your favorite old school mecha anime fused with a fast paced Japanese shooter. There are multiple pilots to choose from, and each one has his or her own ally, rival, and passive abilities. Coming from this, you’ll be able to pair with another pilot and either gain the edge in battle, or face your adversary at their best while they gain a rival ability.
The game world is set in neon-laden megacities that are essentially your playground as a mecha pilot. The core thing to lead to your success is upgrading and enhancing your tank with various parts that you can obtain via “booster crates.” As you find new parts for your tanks, you can slowly assemble the perfect machine for you to lay down the devastation with.
This is a very interesting caveat that actually makes Jump Tanks somewhat of an RPG where you’ll be able to build up your preferred pilot with a better and better tank. While you’re still somewhat dependent on the luck of the draw, I can still foresee the variety of common, uncommon, and rare parts making you come back for more.
You’ll be able to customize the legs, chassis, shields, guns, and attachments for not just one but three tanks. The developers at Mechanical Butterfly Studios are currently accepting requests to play in their bi-weekly multiplayer sessions, at no additional cost.
