Bandai Namco have announced they will shut down Spike Chunsoft’s Jump Force in 2022; just over three years after its launch.
Digital sales of the game and its DLC will end February 7th, 2022 (5:00 p.m. PST), with online services ending August 24th, 2022 (6 p.m. to 10 p.m. PDT). Offline content will still be available after this, as will online non-ranked battles, and DLC purchased prior to being discontinued.
The game launched in 2019 to middling reviews from critics [1, 2, 3, 4]. While most players shared the same opinion or worse, those on Nintendo Switch and Steam seemed to look upon the game more positively.
Our own review noted that while it had everything going for it, it was held back by bad aesthetic and design choices, long load times, overpowered characters, and broken mechanics. “I just don’t think that anyone outside of the most hardcore of anime fans and weeaboos will stick about to discover it, and even they will probably get tired of the issues and move on to greener pastures sooner rather than later.”
According to Steam DB (which only takes Steam players into account), the game had over 9,800 people playing the game on launch. A month later, that figure fell to fluctuating between 200 to 500 players, occasionally breaching over 1,000.
Jump Force is available on Windows PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on Nintendo Switch as Jump Force Deluxe Edition. In case you missed it, you can find our review here.
